The project is being implemented as part of the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027, Priority FENX.05 Support for the transport sector from ERDF, Action FENX.05.06 Intermodal transport.
The project involves the expansion and modernization of the Brzeg Container Terminal infrastructure. The scope of the investment includes the construction of new facilities and technical infrastructure, including an entrance canopy with scales, a device service building, parking lots, maneuvering areas, and storage yards. The project also anticipates the modernization and reconstruction of the track layout, construction of technical and energy installations, lighting, and sewage systems. As part of the project, demolition and dismantling works will also be carried out.
Additionally, there are plans to implement eco-friendly solutions, such as photovoltaic installations and a rainwater collection system. The investment aims to improve the functionality of the terminal and adapt its infrastructure to the growing needs of intermodal transport.
The project includes:
• purchase of 1 terminal tractor for transporting containers within the terminal,
• purchase of 2 reachstackers,
• purchase of 10 intermodal trailers equipped with a telematics system,
• modernization of the IT system for managing operations in the terminal
intermodal.
The target group of the project consists primarily of entities operating in the transport, forwarding, and logistics sectors, including intermodal operators, road and rail transport companies, freight forwarders, and logistics brokers. Manufacturing companies, exporters, importers, and e-commerce firms will also benefit from the terminal infrastructure, as efficient and effective transport solutions are crucial for them. The project is also aimed at public institutions and local governments interested in the development of transport infrastructure, as well as the academic community and higher education institutions collaborating with the TSL industry. Intermediate beneficiaries
will be the residents of Brzesko and surrounding municipalities, including people with disabilities, thanks to the creation of new jobs and the development of the local economy.
The aim of the project is to increase the share of intermodal transport in total freight traffic by expanding the Brzesko Container Terminal. The investment will enhance the efficiency of transshipment and the terminal’s storage capabilities, enabling better service for the growing demand for intermodal transport in the region. The project will contribute to the development of a balanced, intelligent transport system, improving the efficiency and resilience of transport infrastructure, and reducing harmful gas emissions, supporting the construction of a modern transport system with minimal environmental impact.
The project implementation will contribute to increasing the handling capacity of the terminal and improving the integration of rail and road transport, which will enable more efficient handling of larger volumes of intermodal freight. The investment will shorten the handling time of cargo units, increase operational capacity, and partially shift transport from roads to rail. As a result, this will reduce emissions of pollutants and noise, as well as improve road safety. The project will also enhance the investment attractiveness of the Brzesko and Małopolska region, streamline supply chains, and create new jobs. Strategically, the investment will strengthen the region’s role in the national and international logistics network and support the development of sustainable transport in line with national and EU policy objectives.
